Letter to Mrs Thomsen
Your task is to write your Teacher a letter, introducing yourself.
You will type it first, then copy it into your red book in your neatest handwriting.
Here are some ideas you could write about:
Your letter should look like this:
Dear 9 English
Kia ora, I will be your English teacher for 2015! I am looking forward to seeing some of you again and meeting those of you who are new to JMC. This year English will be jam packed with learning new skills and ideas, hard work and fun. I am writing this letter for two reasons, the first to introduce myself to you and the second to show you how to set out a letter.
I have lived in Dunedin since I was five years old and before that lived in a small town called Marton in the lower North Island. I have a degree from the University of Otago and after I completed that I decided to celebrate by going to Europe! I worked in London at a pub and travelled around England, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, which was my favourite place in Europe. When I came back from my OE (overseas experience) I worked as an actor, but decided that I really wanted to be a teacher. So I went back to “school” (Teacher’s College) and learnt all about how to be a teacher.
My hobbies are reading, (I read all the time, even sometimes at the breakfast table!!) spending time with my husband and two sons, cooking and laughing to name a few. My favourite TV programme at the moment is "Blacklist".
I took a fews years off to have my son Luca who is now 2 1/2 . He is very cute, runs around and is obsessed with lawnmowers and diggers! My oldest son Matai is just about 5 and loves knights and lego. I can't wait to buy him knight lego for his birthday!
When you write your letter I would like you to type a first draft and then handwrite it, making sure that you think about spelling, punctuation, layout and grammar, not to mention your handwriting! I would like you to set your letter out exactly the same as I have with paragraphs, (use a new one for each new idea/ time/ thought) indenting, (which is to show a new paragraph by leaving a line between each paragraph) and remembering to address your letter to me (Mrs Thomsen) in the top right hand corner of the page. Also don’t forget to sign off your letter in the same way that I have.
This year we will be doing lots of reading, writing and presenting, as the only way to get better at things is to practice them!!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Thomsen
